Le Velo (Shared Writing)

This is our class writing about Lance Armstrong. It is based on The Piano. In that animation the pianist has three flashbacks of his life whilst playing the piano. In our writing Lance has three flashbacks whilst riding his bike. We hope you enjoy it.

Le Velo (Shared Writing)

Lance slumps over his handlebars with a melancholic look on his face. As tears form in his eyes, his speed deteriorates whilst his pedaling becomes lethargic. He is traumatised. With a heavy sigh, his grip relaxes on the bars and contemplates his chequered past.

His Greatest Loss (Flash back 1).

On that fateful day when there was a knock at the door. The time had come. Lance reluctantly opened the door and laid his eyes upon the person who was there to take away his life's achievement. As he painfully handed over the medals, he fell to the floor in despair. His heart shattered.

The man, sent to collect his prized possessions, could barely look him in the eye, such was his disgust in what this former champion had done. He seized the medals whilst turning his head away in revulsion. In an instant, Lance went from the greatest cyclist in history to nothing.

As the medals were taken away Lance was left, knelt on the floor, looking up to the heavens in despair. It was possible to see in his face that he had not just taken away his trophies but his heart and soul.

The News (Flashback 2).

Lance was apprehensive about visiting the doctor, therefore he brought his family with him for support. As he listened to the diagnosis, Lance's mouth began to quiver nervously. He heard the dreaded news: he had cancer. Suddenly his life was ripped away from him. As the unfortunate news echoed around the room, his mouth dropped in disbelief. His family hugged the grief-stricken husband and father, confused and saddened by the terrifying news. They were horrified.

Years later, after his difficult treatment, Lance visited the hospital once more. This time, his families eyes lit up, as well as his own, when the doctor broke the news. He gave a huge sigh of relief as the tension in his shoulders disappeared. He was clear of cancer. He dropped to his knees and thanked God; his loved-ones jumped with joy and embraced him. Now clear of cancer, he was determined to start cycling again.

His Happiest Time (Flashback 3).

Approaching the start line, Lance's heart was beating like a drum whilst the crowd were roaring his name. He was confident of victory.

Energetically, Lance powered up the mountain, his legs pumping in agony. He was determined to win; no-one in the cycling world could touch him. When he glanced back over his shoulder, and saw his competitors falling back, he was determined to keep pushing. His suffering would not be in vain.

As he crossed the finish line he punched the air in relief and his proud family rushed over to him. His fans were overjoyed by the achievement. When he finally stepped upon the podium, to receive the yellow jersey, a tear of joy formed in his eye. He knew he would go down in history.

Ironman (Present day)

His speed increases as he leans confidently into a more streamlined position. Sweat drips down his face. With a tight grip, he powers through the heat because he can smell victory. Whilst his legs pedal with intensity, Lance is determined to show he can overcome his tainted past.

homework

Explanation text and balanced argument by lauren

My homework wont print properly so hopefully i can print it at school?

A farmer (also called an agriculturer) is a person engaged in gardening who raises living organisms for food and raw materials genrally including livestock husbandry and grain. A farmer might own the farmed land or might work as a labourer on land owned by others, but in advanced economies, a farmer is usually a farm owner, while employees of the farm are farm workers, farmhands, etc.

Farmers provide perfectly edible food for shops to sell so whats not to like about them? If it wasn't for farmers shops would only have factory foods to sell.

Some farm grown foods have germs left from the fields so people can get very sick from it.

Farmers can help feed people in the village who don't have enough.

Farmers take up most of the free land in the country that people could use.

The Piano

Whilst playing the piano together, her hand slipped off the keys and softly lay upon his, uniting the couple. Knowing this is the last time, they played their favourite song with passion and love.

Edging towards her husband, she slowly closed her eyes whilst she kissed him. As her lips touched his pale face, she was reassured their love would last forever.

The sorrowful man's eyes widened. During the mournful song, he managed a small grin remembering the loving years they spent together. With only a memory to keep them together the couple savoured every minute in joy.

As the memory faded, she looked longingly at the man she shared her life with.

The paramedic rushed to the decomposing wall with only a glimmer of hope. He pushed his back to the wall and turned his head to his friend. Staring supportively into his friend's worried eyes he gave his fellow soldier courage.

Bravely, the young sergeant spun round the wall, preparing to fight.  Whilst stood next to the decaying wall, covered in ivy, he watched as the trigger clicked and the bullet took flight.

The bullet pierced his heart leaving him no chance. It was futile, there was nothing the medic could do to save him. In anguish, he comforted the motionless man. The victim clasped his hand in despair, whilst his eyes filled with sorrow. Nothing could be done. He softly faded away.

The young boy rushes over to his Grand Father who is holding a mysterious box under his arm. On his knees, he looks curiously at the carefully wrapped box, which is covered in a beautiful blue ribbon.

pudsey

Today was Pudsey bear day . We all got to come in our pyjamas. On my stall we sold Pudsey shortbread, Pudsey chocolates, cookies a Pudsey cake and some muffins .On our stall we also had a lucky dip and a sweet grabber machine. Loads of people came to our stall , the first things to sell out were the shortbread followed by the chocolates. I brought in chocolates, shortbread and cookies.

First the boys (Reece and keelan)went around the hall whilst me and Lucy stayed on the stall. When the half time bell wet we swapped around so the boys worked on the stall whilst me and Lucy went to look around. However, keelan was struggling so i went and helped him. The first stall I went to was spot the spider (I came 2nd place!)

Our stall raised a whopping £43.39! I was very pleased because all of that money went to children in need. I had a lot of fun selling and shopping the bell had gone therefore we had too stop selling. That was the end of my fantastic day.

The weekend ahead

My step brother and one step sister are coming over, probably go and see grandad and Sooty, bit of shopping no doubt and generally as little as possible.

Oh by the way I did eat and drink inbetween these things and obviously had showers, just didnt think you needed to know when!

Have a good weekend everyone see you back at school on Monday!!!!

my holiday

I had a wonderful holiday but unfortunately it went to quick!.  Firstly we celebrated my brother Lewis's 8th birthday on Saturday at Hollywood bowl. He invited 7 of his friends but sadly only 5 came, Lewis didn't mind as he had a smashing time. His friends who came were Jayden, Alex, Samuel, Ollie and Joseph. We had 1 game of  bowling and the birthday boy won!, this made his day. I was very close to being 2nd, but Alex managed to get a strike on his last go.

After we had finished the game we all sat down to have our lunch, on the menu there was pizza, chicken strips, burger and fish fingers, most of us had chicken strips but a couple had pizza. We all were given a toy which was from Hollywood bowl, all the boys were given a lego set. Lewis had a bigger lego set than his friends as it was his birthday, I was really surprised with my toy as it was an elephant as they are my favorite Animals. When we had eaten our lunch, it was time to bring the Moshi Monster birthday cake out and we all sang happy birthday to Lewis. I enjoyed myself but was pleased that the party was nearly over as being with 6 boys was hard work and they started being annoying towards the end.
This is what his cake looked like.......... AND IT WAS YUMMY!!!!

On Monday my Auntie Aisha and my cousins Hattie-Rose and Cody came to see us, I love it when they come round as we don't see them often. Hattie is nearly 1 and Cody is nearly 2, they are so cute! My brother and I played with Cody and Hattie. Aisha bought a pizza round for us to share and my Mum put it in the oven, we all enjoyed eating the pizza, it was my favorite too as it was pepperoni. After we had our pizza, Hattie was getting tired so I cradled her in my arms and she soon fell asleep.

On Tuesday i had an amazing day out with Brownies, we went to Fairhaven Gardens. Firstly we made our own little tubs of Hedgehog food which contained peanut granules, dried mealworms, sultanas and dried cat food. We then went for a walk in the gardens to find different types of leaves and we looked at the different kind of birds there were. I saw lots of different birds such as Blackbirds, Blue tits, Great tits, Magpies, Robins and Chaffinch.

Hedgehog Food MixThis is what the food for the Hedgehogs looks like.

We all sat down outside to eat our lunch and there were alot of wasps there, I was a little worried because i didn't want to get stung.
Once we had eaten our lunch we went on a boat, this was awesome, we were able to see some more of the wildlife.

On wednesday my Nanny and Grandad took me and Lewis to Hemsby for a couple of hours. I got to see my friend Madison there as her mum and dad works at Hemsby, it was nice to see her. We went into the arcade and I played on some of the 2p machines and we won lots of tickets which we will save till next year so we can get bigger prizes.

My holiday

On Saturday I got up Around 5am to go to aviemore,Scotland. The car journey was boring but I did fall asleep a lot to pass time. I got there at 3pm. We could only book in at 5pm therefore we went to the bar while my dad went shopping for food. It was time to book in so we went to the apartment to see are rooms and one of the rooms was really small consequently we swapped apartments to go to a more up to date one. This room was bigger and we unpacked. It was a nice night.                                                                        In the morning I got up slightly earlier than I would because it was my brothers birthday. He got some chocolate an I phone and lots more. He went shopping in Inverness to get a coat that was black. On Tuesday I got up to breakfast. Soon after we played squash and table tennis. When we finished it was time to go for a nice relaxing swim.                                                                                                          Halloween and time to have breakfast. The next thing we done was play badminton, squash and table tennis. The pumpkins were being carved then suddenly my hand slipped of the handle on to the blade of the knife. It cut my hand open but I will live.                                                                                       I woke up again to find my mum and brothers doing a puzzle. Then I had breakfast. It was going to be fun to play all the sports again. When we finished the sports we were going to go o the pool but it was closed cause of some sort of chemical in it. After that we went to the sister place to watch sky fall. There was a lot of seats. We went back to have some pizza. I then watched tv. I am here now writing this.                                                                                                                                               Tomorrow is our last full day until I will have to go home Saturday and miss the football and my swimming gala at UEA but it on both days any way. I am hoping to get my regional times but soon I will try to be getting my national times. I am doing 400 free,100breast,200 back,200 fly,200im and 100 fly.

Pick of the Week

Pick of the Week

Kayleigh has been posting about the Formula 1, again. Who knew she'd be such a massive fan of the sport. I also enjoyed the bit about food waste that she head on the news. If anyone comes across other things like this post it. We still haven't decided what we're doing next term so more stuff like this the better.

Kayleigh's Blog

I've also enjoyed reading Kettley's blog. Even though he was from last year's class, he is still writing good blogs about what he's been up to.

Check out his latest blog

Another James has also been blogging. This time its Noble and he's been competing in a swimming gala.

I walked through my shimmering double doors, I caught a shadow  creeping round the corner of the hallway ; I thought that it was just my mother or father walking to the fridge, but then I turned to their  room and heard my dad snoring and my mum nudging him while trying to get to sleep.

” What is that?” I screamed as I woke my parents up. The shadow disappeared round the dim lit corner, my instinct was to chase after it, but I decided to  run to my window and there was  the shadow disappearing into the wilderness of the night  sky.

Mean = Is adding together all the numbers then dividing by how many numbers you have.

Mode= Is the most popular.

Median= Is the middle.

Range = The distance between the biggest and smallest number.

look how cute they are

Thursday 11 October 2012

Mean, Median, Mode, and Range
Mean, median, and mode are three kinds of "averages". There are many "averages" in statistics, but these are, I think, the three most common, and are certainly the three you are most likely to encounter in your pre-statistics courses, if the topic comes up at all.
The "mean" is the "average" you're used to, where you add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of numbers. The "median" is the "middle" value in the list of numbers. To find the median, your numbers have to be listed in numerical order, so you may have to rewrite your list first. The "mode" is the value that occurs most often. If no number is repeated, then there is no mode for the list.
The "range" is just the difference between the largest and smallest values.
  • Find the mean, median, mode, and range for the following list of values:
      13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13
The mean is the usual average, so:
      (13 + 18 + 13 + 14 + 13 + 16 + 14 + 21 + 13) ÷ 9 = 15
Note that the mean isn't a value from the original list. This is a common result. You should not assume that your mean will be one of your original numbers.
The median is the middle value, so I'll have to rewrite the list in order:
      13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21
    There are nine numbers in the list, so the middle one will be the (9 + 1) ÷ 2 = 10 ÷ 2 = 5th number:
      13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21
So the median is 14.   Copyright © Elizabeth Stapel 2004-2011 All Rights Reserved
The mode is the number that is repeated more often than any other, so 13 is the mode.
The largest value in the list is 21, and the smallest is 13, so the range is 21 – 13 = 8.
      mean: 15
      median:
      14
      mode:
      13range: 8
Note: The formula for the place to find the median is "( [the number of data points] + 1) ÷ 2", but you don't have to use this formula. You can just count in from both ends of the list until you meet in the middle, if you prefer. Either way will work.
  • Find the mean, median, mode, and range for the following list of values:
      1, 2, 4, 7

-->

The mean is the usual average:
    (1 + 2 + 4 + 7) ÷ 4 = 14 ÷ 4 = 3.5
The median is the middle number. In this example, the numbers are already listed in numerical order, so I don't have to rewrite the list. But there is no "middle" number, because there are an even number of numbers. In this case, the median is the mean (the usual average) of the middle two values:
      (2 + 4) ÷ 2 = 6 ÷ 2 = 3
The mode is the number that is repeated most often, but all the numbers in this list appear only once, so there is no mode.
The largest value in the list is 7, the smallest is 1, and their difference is 6, so the range is 6.
      mean: 3.5
      median:
      3
      mode: none
      range:
      6
The list values were whole numbers, but the mean was a decimal value. Getting a decimal value for the mean (or for the median, if you have an even number of data points) is perfectly okay; don't round your answers to try to match the format of the other numbers.
  • Find the mean, median, mode, and range for the following list of values:
       8, 9, 10, 10, 10, 11, 11, 11, 12, 13
The mean is the usual average:
      (8 + 9 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 11 + 11 + 11 + 12 + 13) ÷ 10 = 105 ÷ 10 = 10.5
The median is the middle value. In a list of ten values, that will be the (10 + 1) ÷ 2 = 5.5th value; that is, I'll need to average the fifth and sixth numbers to find the median:
      (10 + 11) ÷ 2 = 21 ÷ 2 = 10.5
The mode is the number repeated most often. This list has two values that are repeated three times.
The largest value is 13 and the smallest is 8, so the range is 13 – 8 = 5.
      mean: 10.5
      median:
      10.5
      modes:
      10 and 11range: 5
While unusual, it can happen that two of the averages (the mean and the median, in this case) will have the same value.
Note: Depending on your text or your instructor, the above data set may be viewed as having no mode (rather than two modes), since no single solitary number was repeated more often than any other. I've seen books that go either way; there doesn't seem to be a consensus on the "right" definition of "mode" in the above case. So if you're not certain how you should answer the "mode" part of the above example, ask your instructor before the next test.
About the only hard part of finding the mean, median, and mode is keeping straight which "average" is which. Just remember the following:
    mean: regular meaning of "average"
    median: middle value
    mode: most often
(In the above, I've used the term "average" rather casually. The technical definition of "average" is the arithmetic mean: adding up the values and then dividing by the number of values. Since you're probably more familiar with the concept of "average" than with "measure of central tendency", I used the more comfortable term.)

  • A student has gotten the following grades on his tests: 87, 95, 76, and 88. He wants an 85 or better overall. What is the minimum grade he must get on the last test in order to achieve that average? The unknown score is "x". Then the desired average is:
      (87 + 95 + 76 + 88 + x) ÷ 5 = 85
Multiplying through by 5 and simplifying, I get:
      87 + 95 + 76 + 88 + x = 425
                            346 + x = 425

                                      x = 79

He needs to get at least a 79 on the last test.

You can use the Mathway widget below to practice "Data Measurement and Statistics", subtopic "Finding the Median". Try the entered exercise, use the "Select Topic" menu to practice modes and means, or type in your own exercise. Then click "Answer" to compare your answer to Mathway's.

100 word challenge

                                                              the big monster

one sunny day, my friend and i went for a happy walk down to the park. To our surprise, we saw a humomgous monster.excitedly, we edged near to it.in a deep, bellowing voice, it said, "you will be my owner.we brought the shinny machine back to my friend's house.the clumsy golden monster smashed the glass and the plates in the kitchen.finally we became sick and tired of the destruction so we took the extremely annoying monster back to the forest.but the monster wouldn't leave...

Suddenly out of nowwhere this giant squeaky reycled monster sqeaked it moved it's eye left and right.I suddenly hid behind a tree, it started to move. I began shivvering then it was making something but my tiny little brain coulden't work it out. Then it went to chop the tree down, I was petrivied. I started to look for another hiding place but there was nowhere to run.

People went to play with it then I ran to play with it then I saw what it was making it was a rollercoaster. People went to play with it!

Facilities

        Facilities!

There are fantastic facilities all around the school grounds.

Some of them are in the kitchen such as cookers , deep fryers, freezers and much more. The kitchen is of limits to unsupervised pupils because some facilities are dangerous.

They can also be in classrooms such as: interactive whiteboards and some times water taps.
There are tables , chairs ,trays ,working wall and the normal whiteboard ,none have failed us.
And when you get to year 6… things get exciting!

You have Laptops in your class! Well, it’s just as exciting for the younger years because they get to use the amazing packed with facts; I.C..T  suite.

The library is a place for children to relax and learn. Our library used to be a classroom for ks2 but then we raised enough money for us to buy a wonderful library.

The offices are completely off limits to all students and visitors with out permission because the teachers keep all of the Childrens  files and reports inside and personal belongings in there offices to,  along with computers.

There are facilities in the hall to; at assembly’s we use the projector, sometimes, and we have the water tap at the back and we eat in the hall to.

The practical area has all sorts of facilities for example; sinks, ovens, first aid, fryers and much  more, which leads onto the toilets.

Our school toilets have changing rooms so children  don’t have to get changed in their classroom.

We have a policy of ks1 and ks2, ks1 for spots they do football and they sprint in different ways
Ks2 they do rugby, football and lot’s more. When we have breaks we’ve got numerous amounts of equipment especially for sports.

As you can see facilities are very important so be grateful of what we have!

Science
Brundall Primary School believes science is valuable as it can help prepare the children for their later life. In science we learn about lots of things including gasses, light and dark, plants, space and a lot more. At our school we think that science gives children a good hand for what they do in their further life. The children here have great back ups like our schools interactive whiteboard and we also have a model of the human skeleton. We don’t use any dangerous chemicals at our school so your child will not be under any risks. Chemicals are a risk to children so we think they should be banned from primary schools, do you agree?

Languages
In languages we learn German, French and Latin. In Latin you learn songs; you will also learn how to say your name and lots more speech. The way we learn speech is we read stories from that time.

German is a language that pupils learn in year four .Children learns how to say sports, animals, songs, colours and speech. You learn how to say different sports like football, tennis and lots more. Speech is the most important as you learn how to say hello, bye and how are you, with lots more. This also happens in French.

When your child does french, they sing songs like frere Jacques. They also will make up songs using colours and other words that they know. They will watch videos of real French people having conversations.
This also happens in German. Learning French helps children to understand that everyone speaks differently and it is extremely fun in class to watch the videos and listen to the pronunciation. Your child will enjoy playing games as it helps them remember different speech and they are superb.

P.E

During indoor P.E, we learn a combination of dancing routines, related to our learning and perform gymnastic sequences. In these lessons the children cover similar objectives by performing counter balance, counter tension and gymnastic things like cartwheels, bridges and headstands.

In outside PE, the pupils do lots of sports on the field. I will start with rugby. In rugby we learn to pass and shoot. You need to run with the ball and touch it on the floor in a certain area to score a try.

Swimming is based at Thorpe high school. We are taught by different teachers and the pupils do it on days like Tuesday and Friday also Wednesday. The people who swim learn lots of things like kick and all four strokes.

Art
Art is an enriching lesson. It is one of the most creative lessons in Brundall School.
Clay is the most used materials’ here. We make lots of different things like animals, people and pots. Also, we have shaving foam for KS1, so they can draw and make pictures in the foam. The reason why we do art is because it lets their imagination go wild like a monkey in the jungle. It helps them get a good hand for what they do in their later life. They’re passionate about their work and by the end of their time here they are all master drawers.

people

At Brundall primary school we have support staff who help the main teacher and children who need help .We also have MSA’s , who help in the hall, when it’s lunch time. When it’s Christmas the MSA’s dress up and be silly.

At lunch if your in key stage 1when you put your hand up the MSA’s  will come to you and tell you if you can have pudding but if your in key stage 2 you can have pudding whenever you like, but the MSA’s turn you around if you have not eaten enough .

The teachers in key stage 1 are: Mrs Wicks, Mrs Brown, Mrs Hewitt, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Whitehead .The key stages 2 teachers are: Mr Dooley, Mrs Glover, Mrs O’Regan and Mrs Peers.

All the pupils are extremely pleasant because there is a friendly atmosphere. Everyone try’s there best at everything they do from the age 4-11 and every one of them are very responsible and are trusted to make their own choices.

The children’s behaviour is brilliant and there is no verbal or physical violence and there are hardly any fallout’s and everyone is on their best behaviour

The teachers are caring and kind  , they will always answer questions to help the children  learn in each class there is a helper to explain to the children if they are stuck or need assistants . on the play ground there are a number of mid day supervisors that keep the children safe . If the children get hurt they encourage them to be brave and help then to get back on their feet. In the dinner hall staff assist the children in many ways and care for them. The care taker looks after the school and fixes any problems.

To conclude Brundall school is the best ever
